Stitch Length Conversions

Do you have one of the newer style sewing machines that have the stitch settings from 0 to 5?

Do you have patterns that recommend setting your stitch length from 8-10 stitches (or some other value)?

How do you determine what 8-10 stitches is on a 0 to 5 setting?

I have wondered the same things. When I first started quilting, and learning to use my new machine, I made a quick “cheat” sheet using some of the fancy stitches on my sewing machine. But alas, it has been packed in storage, until the completion of my quilt room.

I ran across the 8-10 stitch length again recently.

Do I make up another sampler/cheat sheet? Nah… I decided to add it to my blog. Without further ado, allow me to provide the “conversions” for you.

Number of Stitches ——————Stitch Length Setting

5 ……………………………………………….. 5.0

6 ……………………………………………….. 4.5

7 ……………………………………………….. 4.0

8 ……………………………………………….. 3.5

9 ……………………………………………….. 3.0

11 ………………………………………. ……. 2.5

14 ……………………………………….. …… 2.0

19 ……………………………………………… 1.5

28 ……………………………………………… 1.0

NOTE: These are approximations. Depending on size of your thread, and fabric type, these stitches may vary.

Hi Judi, having it “handy” is so much easier. Glad it helped you out! -A
